Actually, it’s been brutal in Beijing — even leading to city shutdown.
Here in Chengdu, the pollution levels (measured in the PM 2.5 spectrum) have been in the red UNHEALTHY range for several days, but on Thursday morning it briefly leaped into the purple VERY UNHEALTHY range (= “Health warnings of emergency conditions. The entire population is more likely to be affected.”).
And, YES!, it did affect me too — although perhaps not in the way the smog-casters meant. I was walking to the school on Thursday morning, thinking how awful the pollution was, and …. I very badly rolled my ankle on one of those sloping sidewalks. Heard something snap, and experienced intense pain. Ugh. Made it to school, where I propped my foot up, and treated my classmates to the smell of Yunnan Bai Yao spray (the red canister), then came home and have been reclining ever since, treating myself with stinky topical herbs, acupuncture and moxibustion.
